TEST EVENT: An Introduction to BoomBox - A Hands-On Workshop to Introduce Audio and Multi-Modal Playback Experiments
BoomBox workshop at ECCB in Leiden!
We’ll be running a workshop on BoomBox at ECCB in Leiden.
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the use of audio playback and multi-modal cues to study and influence animal behavior in conservation contexts such as pest deterrence and human-wildlife conflict/coexistence.
Using the BoomBox V2 system, a modular, field-deployable playback platform, participants will learn how to design deploy, and analyze playback experiments that test animal responses to stimuli such as predator sounds, alarm calls, and artificial deterrence cues.
The session covers both theoretical and practical aspects, including experiment design, system assembly and configuration, and field deployment. Participants will also explore how to integrate additional modalities (e.g. motion, scent, and light) to enhance ecological realism to improve experimental outcomes. By the end of the session, participants will have gained the skills and confidence to implement playback-based behavioural studies or deterrence trials in their own research or conservation projects.
